Amazing Guinness World Records (GWR)

The Guinness World Records is a famous reference book published annually in 100 countries and listing record-breaking human achievements and many extremes of the natural world.
We had a look in our copy of the book and decided to share our favourite records with you:
- We love hamburgers! What about having a bite of the largest hamburger in the world? Three meat patties, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, hamburger sauce and a bun are the ingredients of this 1,164.2-kg burger. Would you like to try some? Sorry…it’s been eaten up already! This Guinness World Record was set in Germany in 2017.
- What if one of your teachers came to class and said “Today we’re going to have a 79-hour lesson!” You would think that your teacher has gone bananas! Well, 36 Indian students did take part in a lesson that lasted 78 hours and 3 minutes. The lesson took place in Bangalore, India, from 31 October to 3 November 2008. We did some research and found out that pupils were only allowed to take one 5-minute break every hour!
- Have you ever heard about Robert Wadlow, the tallest man ever? Robert was born on 22 February 1918 in Illinois, USA, to two regular-sized parents. He grew to be 2.72m tall. However, Robert’s incredible height caused a number of medical issues, which worsened as he grew older and taller. In fact, he had leg braces and walking sticks but he never used a wheelchair. Sadly, it was Robert’s legs that caused his premature death when he was only 22 years old. We wonder what the world looked like from up there!
- The Hennessey Venom GT is the fastest car in the world. It can hit 435km/h and it costs £910,000. Would you like to take a ride? We would!!!
- The Rhythms of Youth is the longest 3D road painting in the world. Created as a gift to commemorate the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games, the artwork was painted in Nanjing, China, by Chinese artist Yang Yongchu. The painting measures 2,622,882 m² and it features the mascot of the Olympic Games, as well as the Yangtze River and the nearby Mount Snow. This Guinness World Record was set in 2014. Impressed? Us too!
- The longest nose on a living person belongs to Mehmet Özyürek (Turkey). It measures 8.8 cm from the bridge to the tip. Pinocchio would be envious!
- What about the world’s largest t-shirt? It is in India and it is made from 200,000 recycled plastic bottles. Do you have enough space in your wardrobe?
Every year, 50,000 people apply to Guinness World Records in the hope that their achievement will make it into print. Only 1,000 actually do. So, if you want to apply to set or break a record, go to www.guinnessworlrecords.com, sign in and start your journey! Good luck!
